Insurance and Loss Prevention
The Insurance and Loss Prevention team seeks to minimize the economic impact on the University from loss or damage to its physical assets and from third party allegations of liability.
With nearly 500 buildings on UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses and over 40,000 students, staff and faculty present on most days, the potential for loss is high. Teaching, research, and day-to-day support activities create risks that must be managed.
To prevent or mitigate losses, the University attempts either to control the risk with the assistance of all employees, or manage the losses that do occur through risk financing techniques, such as insurance.
In addition to the major property and general liability insurance programs, coverages include:
- UBC’s Fleet Insurance (general information / policy)
- Student Accident Insurance Information and Form
- Volunteer Accident Insurance (general information / policy)
- Business Travel Insurance
- Rental Vehicle Insurance
- UBC Property Losses
- Computer and Portable Electronic Equipment Thefts (general information / policy)
